The Witching Hour is a time of increased supernatural activity that begins at Midnight every night. Officially, it takes place between 12:00 AM to 12:59 AM.  However, its effects continue for hours into the demonic Devil’s Hour. Halloween is the most powerful of these Witching Hours due to the forces of evil annually marshaling forth in an effort to take over the paranormal planet. The nightly Witching Hour is a time when most non-demonic paranormal activity is at its height. Of course, that doesn’t mean demons can’t still be alarmingly afoot. The Midnight Hour is the ideal time to practice magic, particularly witchcraft, which is how the hour got its name. In ancient times, wicked witches were consistently found to be mischief-making at Midnight.

The Origins Of The Witching Hour

One reason supernatural activity is so prominent and the powers of magic at its height is due to the forces of darkness claiming the hour and the remaining hours until the first enchanted embers of dawn.  The forces of goodness thrive in the light of the holy sun. The photons that make up the rays of blessed light are said to originate from Heaven. This is why Vampires perish within its righteous rays.

The pinnacle of this power is at Noon when the sun is at its zenith.  So naturally, goodness would be at its weakest point when the sun is furthest away from this time, which is at Midnight when the Moon is at its zenith.  The Moon has always had a place in the world of paranormal evil.  Its silvery surface warps the sun’s rays into a somewhat unholy light. This allows evil to reside in celestial light rather than pitch blackness.  It plays a role in the dark magic of the wayward Witching Hour.

The Nefarious Night

Another reason for the malevolence of Midnight and the increased supernatural activity it brings is the simple fact that most people are asleep.  The collective consciousness of human goodness, including the pure innocence of children in particular, interacting subconsciously with the pure thought foundation of our reality is at its weakest. This encourages various non-corporeal entities to more easily slip into our reality from higher dimensions.  This includes demons, poltergeists, ghosts, and various sinister spirits.  Many humans are, in fact sub-consciously in the dream plane between life and death as their consciousness lies dormant within their nightly slumber.  So in essence, there’s a temporary exchange between good human souls and the souls of evil from higher dimensions keeping the cosmos in balance.
