Vice-President Chester A. Arthur ascended to the Presidency on September 19, 1881, after the assassination of President James A. Garfield. As our 21st President, Chester served the rest of Garfield’s term until 1885. He never sought direct election to The White House due to lack of support from his own Republican Party. Interestingly enough, Garfield’s assassin Charles J. Guiteau was known to be possessed by the Devil himself. However, we know it was a run-of-the-mill demon that infested his mind in the early 1870’s.
It’s said that Guiteau became possessed at the crazy Christian cult compound of the Oneida Community in the state of New York. Arthur’s old stomping grounds where he grew up and practiced law. As a lawyer, he defended a member of the cult who didn’t have the money to pay his legal fees. Asking the Oneida Cult would have resulted in shame and expulsion. Instead, the mysterious man offered him a future favor of great importance. Apparently, he was quite convincing to sway a lawyer to not pursue collections. Some believe the man had a slight hypnotic ability. Not enough to get rid of the debt outright.
Chester Arthur Unknowingly Turns To The Supernatural For Help
Within the supernatural world, it’s rumored that Vice-President Arthur called in his favor after tensions between him and the President grew to the point of him being locked out of staff meetings. The mystery man was all too happy to pay his long overdue debt. He went to speak with former cult member Charles Guiteau. Some privately called him Crazy Chucky. He was no nuts that the cult excommunicated him. And that was before the demon possession! Chucky was easily manipulated into believing that the Vice-President was his salvation but he needed to be President to make it happen. That’s when he assassinated Garfield hoping that Arthur would reward him. For the record, we don’t know if this was what Chester actually wanted or if he simply asked to be back in the President’s good graces. Either way, he gladly entered the Presidency without hesitation!
The President Learns About Our Perplexing Paranormal Planet!
Upon becoming President Arthur was given the standard paranormal briefing. As VP he was told nothing. President Arthur was somewhat surprised but not completely shocked by what he learned. Growing up in the mid-1800’s there were plenty of rumors about malevolent monsters but he never lived in the wild wilderness so enchanted exposure was limited. He was taken to some top-secret facilities and entered a state of speechless shock when he witnessed a live vampire and a zombie in their respective cages. He even saw a man turn into a werewolf at the first full Moon of his Presidency. During the remainder of his term, he saw a variety of caged cryptids. Like most Presidents, Arthur supported a strong schedule in his secret supernatural agenda. Chester also dealt with various ghosts in The White House. The most prolific was former President Abraham Lincoln. It seems that Lincoln became more active with the assassination of Garfield. It’s unknown if he thought Chester had an indirect hand in the death of the President.
Was A Curse Afoot?
President Chester Arthur developed various health issues during his one term. Some think it might have been a Curse in response to his wish of wanting Garfield gone. Plausibly bad luck sprung forth from the demon possessing Crazy Chucky in his name. Chester’s health began to decline at the time of Chucky’s execution in 1882. The failed fool was probably shocked to find that was his reward from President Arthur. The demon’s consciousness may have been too weak to remain sentient in non-corporeal form. Instead, it could have reverted to a literal live Curse. An evil energy drawn to Arthur who inadvertently absorbed it into his body. It’s also reasonable to believe Native American tribes may have cursed him as well. He gave away their land to white settlers. Indigenous people are notorious for their curses. Second only to Gypsies. Thankfully, President Grover Cleveland reversed that disastrous decision, and the natives had their sainted lands restored to them.
An Alarming Afterlife?
The year after his Presidential term ended he died of a sudden cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 57 on November 18th, 1886. His was the second shortest Post-Presidency with President Polk being the shortest. Chester was buried in a sarcophagus next to his wife Nell who died in 1880. Some Supernatural Hunters of the time claim his Ghost and the previously mentioned demon became intertwined to temporarily form a Poltergeist. The evil entity haunted Washington DC and surrounding areas until 1889. During that time some say Arthur could be seen writhing in agony amid a maniacally laughing demon. If this is true then the demon grew strong by feeding off of Chester’s immortal soul. The end of the hauntings coincided with a large bronze angel statue sculpted to place a giant palm leaf on The Arthur’s granite sarcophagus. It’s thought the mystery man who directed Crazy Chucky to President Garfield had a hand in commissioning the holy sculpture. It had paranormal properties that propelled Arthur to Purgatory for soul cleansing. Eventually, he ascended to Heaven to be with his wife.😈
