Now of course the easiest, and most classically quintessential of Halloween costumes is the infamous white sheet with two eye holes in it. This became the standard image for ghosts due to the ethereal manifestation of ghosts without the energy to appear in their transparent human form. Rather they’d appear as moving blurry space, or a blurry fog specter.
