It&#8217;s about the aftermath of all electrical power going out on the entire Earth! The power has been off for 15 years and it&#8217;s a post apocalyptic world that has returned to being an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Agrarian_society\">agrarian society<\/a> ruled over by Militia&#8217;s in a world made up of several small Republics. Some people possess a mysterious device that allows the power to work in a small area around them. The show doesn&#8217;t give the reason for the power outage until later in the series. However, the use of the devices suggests some global energy dampening device is in place.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually it is revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/revolution.fandom.com\/wiki\/The_Blackout\">all electrical power is being absorbed<\/a> by quadrillions of Nanobots or <a href=\"https:\/\/revolution.fandom.com\/wiki\/Nanites\">Nanites<\/a>. It was apart of an experiment by the United States government to use as a weapon against enemies. Unfortunately, it got out of control and cut power all over the planet! The devices some people have deactivate the Nanites in a small area so power can be restored.
